Why You Should Link To Blog Posts
Linking to blog posts offers a lot of benefits you need to know about.
It’s an extra step to take when putting together a blog post or article, but linking to other posts (yours and other bloggers) can really pay off. When you do it right, your blog reaps the rewards. An ongoing strategy, anchoring links within your blog text holds a multitude of benefits if you keep doing it consistently. Let’s go over a few reasons why you should link to blog posts.
Here’s the Proof
When you link back to other sources, you’re telling your readers: “Hey, don’t just take my word for it, here’s what other people are saying about the subject.” People feel better when others have the same view points. And by linking your opinion to those of writers who feel the same, you’re letting your readers know that there is a community out there that shares the same thought. And if you’re linking to a well-known and respected member of your community, even better – that’ll bring in some more cred for your way of thinking.
Here’s the Backstory
There are times when a thought in your article or post needs more explanation. Good thing you already wrote about that very topic a few weeks or months back. Link to in within your article so that readers can bone up on the information they’ll need to fully understand the topic at hand. Plus, it’s a great way to recycle content. You’re reintroducing an article that’s been sitting in the archive. Perhaps your newer readers had no idea it was there. They’ll be happy to find out that you’re a one-stop-shop when it comes to having all of the information they need in one place.
Here’s Who I Admire
It never hurts to share a little blogging love. Perhaps you got an idea from another writer — link back to that blog in your post. Or maybe it’s someone who you think has a fresh, cool way of looking at things — introduce that blog to your readers by linking to it. It’s link karma if you will, and it comes back to you in spades. When these bloggers learn that you’re pimping them out (and they will, especially if you run in the same communities), they will throw some your way. And your readers will see you as a forward thinker. You’re on top of who is happening and cool, that’s why you’re the one “discovering” these blogs.
