Land acknowledgement
Actually acknowledges and recognizes the homeland and traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg people, which include the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Pottawatomi Nations collectively known as the Three Fires Confederacy.
We also acknowledge the Wendat Nation (Huron) who occupied these lands prior to the middle of the 17th century.
Our office location is met at Kempenfelt Bay (“ouentironk” or “Beautiful Water” by the Wendat-Huron people) and located on Lake Simcoe Treaty No. 16 known as the Lake Simcoe Purchase.
The first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada, John Graves Simcoe, renamed the lake in memory of his father, Captain John Simcoe, and the bay was named after Rear-Admiral Richard Kempenfelt.
To determine the treaty of your office location on traditional First Nations Indigenous land visit the Government of Canada Treaties and Agreements.
