Don’t get us wrong—it’s important to be genuine with your business blog. You’ve got to establish rapport, with genuine human connection with your audience. After a while, it’s easy to lose sight that your blog is really about your readers, not about you. Write about how you can help them. There’s still a lot you can do to make your posts all about your readers—just follow these handy tips and get back on the right track to making it all about them again.

Wording matters

Let’s just say you write a blog all about gluten-free food, and when your kids go to their friends’ houses after school—they feel left out when the sweet treats are pulled out and they can’t enjoy them too. Instead of writing: “My kids are often left out of snack time at their friend’s houses,” write an article titled “10 Kid-Friendly Snacks For Gluten-Free Kids On The Go” which is an article that that’s more about the reader and less about you.

Interview an expert

Yes, we know, you’re an expert! But there are other experts too! Give someone else a chance to talk on the subject that’s important to your audience. That way, another trusted source will be reaffirming or backing up what you’ve been talking about. Plus it gives your readers something new perspective to think about that makes your blog a valuable source in your sector of business.

Engage readers with a How-to article

How-to articles never go out of style and are always clickable. The headline and the content contained within are aimed at helping readers. Sure, you can sprinkle some of your personal experience in this type of blog post, but the focus will be on helping the reader conquer a problem they are facing with a how-to article.

Keeping up with the latest industry trends

You can never go wrong when you talk about the hottest trends in your industry, as it is top of mind with your readers. This can include holidays, industry events, products and news items that are being talked about or blogged about. Feel free to leverage what other industry experts are writing about because it’s likely what your readers want to know more about.

Headlines all about “You”

Readers love when articles are all about them, right from the start—so start it off that way. Craft the headline with the word “you” in it. Let’s use the gluten-free example again: “5 Tips To Go Gluten-Free” can be “5 Ways You Can Go Gluten Free Today” Now, it’s personalized to them. This function word is just a little trick, but it does make a big difference.
