Sure you blog, but do you microblog? You might be… you just didn’t know it. But what is microblogging? Basically, it’s a term used for a social media outlet that lets you send out short messages to other subscribers of that particular site or service. Starting to sound familiar? Yep—microblogging is a fancy-schmany word for social media sites like Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram.

Once you post your microblog update, these sites can publish them in a variety of ways. The most popular is called a timeline. You’ll see a bunch of recent updates on the main page of a site when you sign in.  These microblogging updates are as flexible and mobile as you need them to be. They can be sent out via SMS alerts or sent to your email inbox. Short and sweet, these messages keep you in the know.

Why You Should Microblog

Microblogging is a fast and easy way to stay in touch with your audience. You may not have time for a regular blog post today, but you don’t want anyone to forget you. Microblogging is a super way to stay relevant. Plus, for the most part, you don’t need to worry about the upkeep and maintenance of these sites—it’s all taken care of for you.
